Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a form of therapy that aims to alleviate distress following disturbing life experiences. The goal of EMDR is to properly process traumatic memories, therefore reducing their impact and negative charge.

During EMDR therapy, the client will recall distressing events while receiving bilateral sensory input. Bilateral stimulation allows the client to access and reprocess negative memories, eventually leading to decreased psychological arousal surrounding the memory. Therapy then focuses on fostering a positive belief or emotion in the client.

Some memories have a lasting negative impact that can interfere with the way the person sees the world and interacts in it. While EMDR cannot erase painful memories, it can alter the way traumatic memories are stored within the brain.

EMDR can help clients resolve issues such as:

Grief and Loss

Childhood Abuse

Sexual Assault

Excessive Worry

Disturbing Memories

EMDR has been around for over 25 years and it is an extensively researched and proven treatment approach.

I am trained and certified in EMDR Therapy.

My therapy practice is focused on helping young adults and the struggles and stressors this age group faces.

Many transitions associated with early and late adulthood can have an impact on overall mood and functioning. Maybe you're trying to decide your career path, college, relationships, or considering building a family. Maybe you're ready to work though painful issues or experiences still impacting you from childhood. Maybe you need help beginning to assert yourself, create healthy boundaries, and stop people pleasing.

I aim to help my clients understand themselves on a deeper level. This often requires discussing past experiences to better understand the root of the problem. I believe the relationship formed between therapist and client can encourage acceptance and healing.

In addition to my work with young adults, I help individuals of any age who are a good fit for the services I offer.
